New video games for PC and PlayStation 2

There are some new games for PC and PlayStation 2 that are coming out which look cool. On there's a preview of Swat 4: Stetchkov Syndicate for the PC. The downloadable trailer looked cool and the screenshots looked awesome.

For PlayStation 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence was launched in Japan last Thursday. Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa appeared at events in Tokyo as the game was released. You can see images on Also for PlayStation 2, there's a preview for Fight Night Round 3 on

A man is suing Microsoft for Xbox 360 problems

I read in an article that a man is suing Microsoft because the new Xbox 360 has a flaw where it first overheats, then it crashes. It seems that there appears to be a lot of people having problems with their new Xbox 360. You would expect Microsoft to do a better job than this, don't you? You pay $400 and expect something to be of excellent quality, but what you get is crap, that's not good. This isn't good for Microsoft, maybe they should stay out of the video game business, and leave it to Sony, with PlayStation.

Thursday, November 17, 2005 article about the lead in drinking water has an article about the lead in drinking water situation that I posted about earlier today, Concerns raised on lead levels by Beth Daley, Globe Staff. Read it and check if you have lead water pipes in your street.

Scary stuff! Your Boston home may have lead in the drinking water

This is really some scary stuff. Last night on Fox 25 there was a report on lead in the drinking water in the homes in and around Boston. has the story on their site but you can go directly to the Conservation Law Foundation web site and click on the "Lead in Drinking Water" story/report (or just click the link). There is a PDF available on that web site (you can directly download it here), where they list all of the addresses of Boston properties with water service lines made of lead. The PDF list is very long, actually 87 pages. I don't know about you but this is some scary stuff that worries me. It's going to take me a while to look through the long list to see if where I live is listed but I have already found a neighbor's home right down the street from me is listed. In the article/report (Lead in Drinking Water) it states that "Boston's drinking water has proven to contain some of the highest lead levels of any major water system in the country." If that quote doesn't scare you, then you probably don't live in or around Boston.

The guy on Fox 25 last night interviewed someone in the Boston water department (this may be the wrong name of it, but it was someone from some kind of Boston water department) and he said that these pipes will be fixed/replaced in the next 10-15 years. What! What! We're talking about people's health and people's lives here. This guy probably doesn't even live in or around Boston. If he did and if others did, I'm sure this would be fixed sooner than 10-15 years. The article/report from above also mentions that of the Massachusetts children that have had blood tests, it shows an elevation in lead levels in their blood. "26 have populations that are nearly 80 percent non-white and 20 percent below the poverty line." Anyone else thinking that if the 80 percent were white and were rich, that this problem would be fixed by now or at least they would have a plan in place to tackle this situation? I at least think there would be more made about this and you would see action being taken now, not 10-15 years from now.

Everyone has to do something about this. Write to the mayor, write to city hall, write to any government office. We need this problem to be taken care of now, not later.

Destiny's Child is no more

Well Destiny's Child has performed together for the last time, on Tuesday they performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Kelly Rowland said that "you never know" when Kimmel asked if they would have a future reunion. Read more about it on Yahoo Music. I'm a big fan of Destiny's Child, they are one of my favorite female artists along with Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, and Erykah Badu. Hopefully they do have a reunion sometime.

Sony BMG not sorry about putting virus-like program on CDs

A few days ago I wrote about the whole Sony CD spyware incident. Well "Sony BMG was unapologetic in its mission to use anti-piracy technology. '(It) is an important tool to protect our intellectual property rights and those of our artists,' Sony stated (Sony Still On The Hot Seat by Antone Gonsalves," So their important tool is ok to force on their consumers' computers without asking them? Well Sony, you are going to lose a lot of customers. You lost one right here too.

The program that is on about 19-20 Sony CDs is XCP (eXtended Copy Protection) copy-protection technology. Sony BMG is temporarily stopping the manufacturing of CDs containing the XCP technology. Notice the word temporarily, so Sony BMG will stop for now (so they say) but later they will probably continue to put this spyware on their CDs. I know I am going to stop buying any Sony CDs and I may never buy one again. Why would I buy something that may break my computer or worse spy on me (and maybe steal sensitive or personal data)? I've read about other people who are now going to boycott all Sony products. I think that may be a little too extreme but it does make you think, are they doing this to other products they sell? Are other companies doing this? Hopefully not my PlayStation 2! Read more about the XCP software.

Sony CDs might mess your computer up and spy on you

The article "Are these the Sony rootkit CDs?" by Graeme Wearden on says that the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), a cyber-rights group has found 19 Sony CDs that put an application on it which can be used to hide malicious code. I never thought I would read something like this but I should expect the unexpected these days. No more buying Sony CDs for me anymore. Is this Sony or the music industry trying to get back at people who use file-sharing programs to download music? Or is this program used to spy on us to see if we are downloading music? Probably not but you never know. Another article on has more, "'Bots' for Sony CD software spotted online" by John Borland, CNET

Second Life, your own virtual 3-D world

While reading the newsletter I got in my inbox I saw there was article about an online virtual world (Online Virtual World Is Part Fantasy, Part Civics Experiment by Christopher T. Heun). So I went to the article and read about it and I found it actually quite interesting. An online virtual 3-D world called Second Life is available for anyone (membership is free), but you need to have a broadband internet connection. If you want to "buy land" it costs a minimum of $9.99 per month. Once you buy virtual land, you can build whatever you like. It seems to be a pretty cool idea, hopefully the users only use it for good and not for anything bad. I know that I'm not going to pay $9.99 a month to buy "virtual" land when I could use that money for actual "real life" land.

Cam Neely, inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame

Cam NeelyIn Toronto on Monday night, Cam Neely was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He is 40 years old and was recently named Boston Bruins ambassador. In his All-Star career, Neely played 726 regular season games, scored 395 goals and had 299 assists. For playoff stats, he had 55 goals, and 89 points in 93 playoff games. He had to retire in 1996 at 31 years old because of injuries. Cam Neely was the one who created the type of hockey player, power-forward. He wouldn't go around you to score, he would go right through you. Knock you down, take the puck and score. All Boston Bruins fans miss him but wish him the best. There's a great article on Cam Neely by Scott Burnside on

Terrell Owens, not to play again for Eagles is reporting that Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens was suspended for Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins and for the three next games without pay. Then the Eagles are planning to deactivate him for the rest of the season. (Remember a few years back, the same happened to Keyshawn Johnson when he criticized coach Jon Gruden.) Coach Andy Reid said that Owens "had been warned repeatedly about the consequences of his actions." Owens was suspended on Saturday, two days after he said the Eagles showed a "lack of class" because they didn't celebrate him on his 100th career touchdown catch. OK T.O. maybe they should have thrown you a parade, you selfish classless player. Maybe that will be the last touchdown catch you get, but probably not with other NFL teams and coaches thinking "I can change this guy." Let me tell you, NO you can't. This guy will never change and will never get it. It's all about him, him, him, I, I, I. Football is a team sport. There's no room for players like Terrell Owens in the league. He may get all the stats in the world but he will never win a championship.

One funny note, in the article, it says that reporters were waiting outside Owen's home for a word and a pizza guy delievered pizza to Owen's home. The deliveryman, James McDevitt got a $5 tip but told reporters he left the tip on the door step.

I mean what a joke this guy is. I can't believe that the Eagles actually kept him on their team for this long. I'm so glad the New England Patriots (my favorite NFL team and the team I follow) did not pick up T.O. or players that act the way he does. Bill Belichik and his coaching staff wouldn't take any of that crap, he would be off the team once the first thing came up.

Here's an interview that ESPN had with Terrell Owens last Thursday.

Two Carolina Panthers cheerleaders arrested

Apparently two Carolina Panthers cheerleaders were having sex in the bathroom of a club in Tampa, Florida and were arrested early Sunday. The story on says that they were taking so much time in the bathroom that other were getting annoyed and another woman got into an argument with them. You can see the "mug shots" on of the two women who were arrested. Wow, another wild story that has to do with another NFL team this year. A few weeks ago we all heard about the Minnesota Vikings, who had an orgy on a cruise and now this.

It's not so much are you being watched but we know what you're printing. Or do they? Apparently some researchers found embedded tracking codes (dots), which can only be seen with a microscope, on printed paper. Does this infringe on your privacy? Read more about this story on

This story doesn't really surprise me and it shouldn't surprise you. Dorchester, my home town, not on a Boston map, what!?

I went to this morning looking forward to just see what's going on in Boston today and I found the article, "Visitors won't discover some city areas via map" by Adrienne P. Samuels, Globe Staff, October 10, 2005. The article talks about how Dorchester, a neighborhood with history, is not shown on a map and how tourists should see the sites of Dorchester. Being someone who was born and still lives in Dorchester is a little upset over this. Dorchester is as much a part of Boston, if not more than Cambridge and other areas around Boston. You can view Dorchester on Google maps here.

Microsoft's new Office will allow you to "Save As..." a PDF file

In the article, "Microsoft: Office 12 Will Handle PDF" by Greg Keizer on, it says that in Microsoft's newest version of Office, when you're in programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and more that you'll be able to save documents as a PDF file. This makes me curious a little of why they would do this because previously I heard that Microsoft would be coming out with their own "PDF' style format of document called "Metro". Apparently they will are still having "Metro" but is this some way of Microsoft being nice to their competitors or just trying to get the government of their back a little. Pam Deziel, the director of platform strategies for Adobe had it right when she said "Microsoft is a $40 billion monopoly, and a formidable opponent." Keyword being "monopoly." Stay tuned as I'm sure there will be more to this.

ESPN MLB 2K5 Passed Ball Bug

When I first bought ESPN MLB 2K5 I thought it was awesome. I also had MVP Baseball 2005 but ESPN MLB 2K5 is much better. The graphics, gameplay and overall control of ESPN MLB 2K5 are great, but there was one issue I had after I played a few games. Whenever I got runners on second and third base, when the computer pitched pitched, a passed ball happened. The first time this happened, I didn't think it was anything, just another cool real-life feature that the game included. But when it happened to different batters in a row in the same inning, I knew something was up. So I looked around online and found that others had the same problem. Someone came up with the solution of going into the "Difficulty" options and setting "Errors" for both you and the CPU to "50". So I tried this solution and it worked. Although now my players were making these stupid errors every game. I averaged around 3 errors per game. I got frustrated with this so I went into the "Difficulty" options and set "Errors" for me at "10" and left the CPU errors at "50". Then I played a game to see what would happen and there weren't any passed balls in the entire game. Out of the ten games that I played, there was only 1 passed ball. So now for all of you ESPN MLB 2K5 fans, you can play a game without the passed ball bug and not have your players make stupid errors. Or you can just take errors off. Your choice. Let me know if you came to another solution to the passed ball bug.

PS3 Prices May Be High

Today I found an article about PS3 costing $399 because it may cost up to $490 to manufacture, so Sony will sell it at $399 and take a loss. The article is: "Sony to take $100 loss on $399-priced PS3, says new report" by Rob Fahey. I don't know about others but I'm not going to spend $399 just for PS3. I am an active PlayStation 2 video game player but $399? Come on, that's too high for me. I have a lot of other bills to pay and my future with my fiancee to look forward to, rather than paying that much for a game system. Don't get me wrong, I want to get PS3, but not at $399. Maybe the price will drop around Christmas time (of whichever year PS3 comes out) or a year after it initially comes out. GameSpy has a forum about the PS3 price tag, check it out.

My Favorite Show on TV

Right now my favorite show on TV has to be Chappelle's Show. If you haven't seen it yet, where have you been? Get cable and put Comedy Central on. It is the funniest thing I've seen on TV. The skits that Dave and his cast do are just hilarious. Everyone is still talking about the Rick James and Charlie Murphy episode where Charlie talks about times where he's had to kick Rick's ass and keep him in check. It's where the semi over-used phrase "I'm Rick James bitch!" came from. LOL The episode also tries to re-live those times with Dave Chappelle playing Rick James and Charlie Murphy playing himself. That episode is the best one to date. If you don't have seasons 1 and 2 on DVD yet, what are you waiting for. I have both and watch one of them when I need a laugh. You can get the DVDs now on
