Make element stay visible when scrolling solution

I wanted to find a way to make an element move down the page and stay on the screen when a user scrolled down the page. So I searched Google and found this jQuery solution that William, on www.wduffy.co.uk, created himself. It's a nice solution if you have this issue that you want to take care of on your site. So big props to William. Check his site out.

AMC The Walking Dead episode 4

Last night was episode 4 of AMC's The Walking Dead series, the 4th of the 6 episodes that will appear this season. Only two episodes are left this season! It's going to be a tough wait until next season. *Spoiler alert: Yesterday's episode was another interesting episode. The 4th episode continued with the four guys looking for Merle, but they end up running into another group of survivors and things get a little troublesome. On their way back to the camp site, the truck they used to drive to the city was missing and they suspect that Merle took it. They go on foot back to the camp site to only find it being attacked by the dead. Some survivors die but most survive. I won't name any names to not ruin it for those that haven't seen it yet and are reading this.

From reading the comments from the 4th episode, it seems in the comic books, everyone is already infected, it's only when someone dies that they turn into a walker/zombie. Hence the title of the series, The Walking Dead.

Here's a video of a sneak peek for episode 5 named "Wildfire". If the video isn't displaying you can go here to view the video.

Green Lantern movie trailer

I've never read the Green Lantern comic book so I didn't know what it was about besides him being a superhero. I watched the trailer for the new upcoming Green Lantern movie and it looks good. The movie will be in theaters in June 2011 with comedian Ryan Reynolds as the main character. Check out the trailer below.

New Cowboys & Aliens movie

I've never been a fan of cowboy or western type of movies, except for the movie Tombstone of course, but I saw the trailer for the new Cowboys & Aliens movie coming out in 2011 and I have to admit that it looks interesting. The movie is based off a graphic novel. Daniel Craig, the current James Bond, and Harrison Ford are in this movie. You can watch the trailer below.

ABP: Reloaded to come out next year

In a previous post, I found out that the APB: All Points Bulletin game may be coming back and going free-to-play. Well today I read that it will be re-launched next year as a free-to-play game, and it will be renamed to ABP: Reloaded.

Some info about the changes coming to the new ABP game:

"APB was a game that had several exceptional features and some brilliant ideas, even though it was plagued by some initial balance and monetization issues," Bjorn Book-Larsson, CTO and COO of GamersFirst, said in a statement. "We want to take all the unique features of this title, such as its unparalleled character, weapon and car customization systems, and convert the game to a true free-to-play game."

Some more notes about the upcoming changes:

When asked about the major ways the new revenue model would improve APB, Book-Larsson said it would solve two of the chief complaints many gamers had about the game. First, no one will be buying game-time in "chunks," which should cut down on the number of people who drop the game because their friends stop playing, and secondly, the micro-transaction model will help with balancing issues.

"If you joined the game, you'd end up getting shot by people with guns that you couldn't get," Book-Larsson said. "That's not really a good retention model. So we're going to change a lot of the balancing components."

In the new APB, players who would rather not grind for a long time will be able to buy 30 day leases on guns that will be comparable to the weapons "hardcore" players gain through hours of hard work. "It's not the same gun," Book-Larsson said. "But it's similar to what you're being shot with by the other people... Our goal is to make it so that free players who refuse to pay still have a decent experience, but those who do micro-transactions, and buy these micro-transaction guns, get a little bit of an edge."

AMC The Walking Dead episode 3

Sunday night I watched episode 3 of AMC's The Walking Dead series and thought it was another good episode. Not a lot of action but more of getting to know the characters a bit more.

*Spoiler Alert* Don't read on if you haven't seen episode 3 yet. Here's a quick summary of this week's episode: Rick finally meets up with his family; Merle, the racist, is still handcuffed on the roof; Merle's brother returns to the camp and is pissed that his brother was left on the roof; Rick and three others go to try and save Merle; we find out that Shane told Rick's wife that Rick was dead, so Rick's wife isn't really a cheater after all; besides a racist in the series we now have a wife beater named Ed and Shane beats him up after Ed assaults his wife; the four who went to find Merle get to the roof and get the chains off the door to only find a hand on the roof and no Merle.

So the question is did Merle cut off his own hand to escape? Was that Merle's hand? Some pointed out in episode 3's comments that there wasn't any blood on the ground so it could have been a geek's hand (geeks are considered zombies in this series, yeah I don't get that either). But whose hand would it be if it wasn't Merle's hand? The door was still chained so it had to be Merle's hand. Maybe the producer or whoever forget to add blood on the ground? If Merle did saw off his own hand, where did he go? Did he jump off the roof and commit suicide? It would be tough to climb down with only one hand. Was there a fire escape? I guess we'll find out in the next episode.

If you're looking for The Walking Dead items for holiday gifts or just to buy, Amazon.com has tons of stuff, from the books to ordering Season One on DVD (see above), although the DVD is not available yet at the moment.

In the preview for next week's episode, it looks like the four who went to search for Merle run into other survivors but they don't look friendly. I'll see if I can find the preview video for next week's episode.

Here's a sneak peak video from Episode 4 named "Vatos"

All Points Bulletin game may go free-to-play

The APB: All Points Bulletin game may be making a comeback and it may be free-to-play. I did sign up to play this game when it came out but then I found out it was pay-to-play and a huge download so I changed my mind. But if this game does go the free-to-play route I think I will try it. Hopefully my computer can handle it though.

As GamesIndustry.biz reports, now that K2 (War Rock and 9 Dragons) owns the rights to APB, there's a chance the failed online multiplayer game, which was officially shut down this past September after being live for less than three months, might be back up and running by year's end. Whenever it does go live, it appears that APB will abandon its subscription/micro-transaction model in favor of free-to-play.

AMC The Walking Dead episode 2

Sunday night I watched the second episode of the new The Walking Dead series and I enjoyed it, even though I thought the first episode was better. *Spoiler Alert* Don't read any further if you haven't seen the second episode yet. There were some parts that I didn't like about it, but that's just my opinion, and some others stated them as well in the comments of the second episode thread.

The first thing that caught my attention was when some of the zombies had large rocks in their hands and we're trying to smash through the glass doors of the store where the group were hiding out. Anyone who has seen most zombie movies knows zombies don't use tools, but it's not a big deal I guess.

The second thing was when it was raining and Rick and the other guy were walking to the truck and the "zombie smell" or "dead smell" washed off of them, the zombies started to run after them at first. Zombies don't usually run.

The third thing was when Rick and the other guy climbed the fence and got over it to get into the parking lot and to the truck. Only one zombie followed and climbed the fence and got over it. I found it odd to make a zombie have agility and the ability to get over the fence. But if one does it, then why not more of them? I thought that was odd.

Besides these things, I think it's a great show and I'll be tuning in next Sunday to watch the next episode. Did you watch the second episode too? What did you think? There will be a second season. Nice.

Old X-Men arcade game making a comeback

Wow I remember this old X-Men arcade game back when I was a kid. Now it looks like they're making the arcade game available on the Xbox 360 in December. When I was younger, during the summer my parents signed me up with a place called the "Little House" which was down the street from where we lived. Don't ask, I have no idea why it was called that lol. It was kind of like a neighborhood day watch program for kids during the summer.

Anyways on some of the day trips we would go to a beach or amusement park. Of course the amusement parks had arcades there and I remember I would spend most of my time in there wasting my money on playing games lol. I still remember fun times playing that game as I always tried to play as Wolverine when I got a chance to play. When I ran out of money I would watch others play it too. It was the game back then. If you have never played it before here's a video of the gameplay action.

You'll choose between a handful of the classic X-Men including Wolverine, Cyclops, Nighcrawler, Collossus, Storm and Dazzler in your battle against Magneto and his band of Sentinels and brawling alligator-people. Don't expect any new characters, levels or bosses, as the game is ported directly from the original version, except with a noticeably nicer menu screen. That said, all the same fisticuffs action remains with wave after wave of enemies pouring from various portals and doors.

Battlefield Play4Free coming in 2011

Today EA announced that they'll be making a new free Battlefield game which will be released in the spring of next year.

The publisher announced this morning it's working on a more realistic FPS to complement its year-old free online arcade shooter, Battlefield Heroes. Battlefield Play4Free is set to go live in spring 2011.

Featuring 32-player online battles, advanced graphics, and the franchise's signature vehicular warfare, Battlefield Play4Free will combine the most popular maps from 2005's Battlefield 2 with the classes and weapons from the franchise's most recent retail title, Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Here's a teaser trailer for the game.

New Man vs Second Life video

If you play Second Life then you've probably heard of the original popular Man vs Second Life video created by a Second Life user. Well the same user has created a second video and I think it's just as funny as the first video. Check it out below, let me know what you think.

AMC The Walking Dead episode looked good

Sunday night I watched the premiere of new The Walking Dead series on AMC and I enjoyed it. Even though I don't really like horror movies, I'm a fan of zombie movies and video games (Resident Evil, Left 4 Dead, Dawn of the Dead are the ones I can think of right now), I enjoyed this episode.

Here's a quick summary of the series:

The Walking Dead tells the story of the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse and follows a small group of survivors traveling across the country in search of a new home away from the hordes of zombies. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a police officer in the old world. As their situation grows more and more grim, the group's desperation to survive pushes them to do almost anything to stay alive.

I was looking through and reading the comments people were posting on the official episode page where anyone can discuss the episode while it played live and it was open for discussion after the episode too. It seems lots of others enjoyed the show too. From reading the comments I found out that this series is based on a comic book (which is currently on issue 78). This series will only have six episodes in season 1. If the show's producers are going by the comic book, well from the comments, it seems the comic book never went into details about how the zombie situation started.

The Walking Dead even has its own Facebook fan page. If you watched the episode last night let me know what you thought of it. If you didn't see last night's episode make sure to check out next Sunday's episode.

I saw the previews for next week's episode and it looks like part of it takes place in a store or a mall of some sort. I wonder if they got any ideas from the movie Dawn of the Dead or the video game Dead Rising. It should be another interesting episode.
